After two years of dating, Kate Middleton's sister, Pippa Middleton, will marry her long-time fiancé James Matthews on May 20, 2017.
The wedding will take place at St. Mark's Church, while the reception will be at the Middleton's family home in Bucklebury, which is seven miles away. Kate Middleton will not be the bridesmaid of the wedding, and according to Judy Wade, veteran royal correspondent, this might be because Kate doesn't want to overshadow her sister's big day.
"Kate would upstage her sister. It's a tricky situation for Pippa. She would want her sister by her side, as who else would she trust to make things go well? But if your sister is a future Queen, she is going to upstage the bride and draw attention. Kate would want to be in the background as much as possible," says Wade.
However, there might be actually a traditional reason why Kate Middleton won't be the bridesmaid for Pippa's wedding and that's because bridesmaids according to tradition should be unmarried and younger than the bride. Pippa might ask Kate instead to read poetry or a passage from the Song of Solomon during the wedding.
While Kate Middleton won't be the bridesmaid, Prince George, who will turn four next July, is said to be one of the page boys of the wedding and so is Princess Charlotte, who just turned two, as one of the flower girls. Prince Harry is also reported to attend the wedding, and Spencer Matthews will be the best man.
As for Pippa's fiancé, James Matthews is a multi-millionaire hedge fund manager who sets up and runs his own investment fund, Eden Rock, which is named after the luxury hotel chain owned by his parents. Despite the luxurious properties owned by his parents, Pippa will marry him in a traditional English countryside instead.
