When Microsoft's Xbox One was released, it didn't reach the same success that Sony's PlayStation 4 had but Microsoft tells people that its latest console, the Project Scorpio that is currently in development will outperform the PS4. Microsoft hinted that the forthcoming console is set to launch in Christmas of 2017 although there is no solid date.
According to PC Advisor, the estimated price of the Project Scorpio would be between £350 and £500. While people wondered why this was announced too early when the console is not due for release until the last quarter of 2017, Xbox Chief Phil Spencer said that it's indeed odd to announce something too early but he would want customers to be able to choose on what consoles they want to purchase with enough information as possible.
Spencer explained that they want to provide customers the information to make a decision whether they'll buy something else or wait until the release of the Project Scorpio. He also added that they want to convey a message to the developers out there who are making games for the next holiday that the Project Scorpio is what they will have at their disposal on the console side.
When asked about the pricing of the Project Scorpio, Spencer told The Verge that they are not yet prepared to announce it but people should think about the price point of consoles these days. Imagine having a console at six teraflops, which will draw millions of people to purchase it, is appealing to the emerging VR companies. "I want Scorpio to be at a console price-point, I'm not trying to go and compete with a high-end rig," he said.
The Project Scorpio is a forthcoming hardware revision of Xbox One that will feature major hardware upgrades, which enabling 4K gameplay and virtual reality hardware support is its focal point. The console will also be backwards compatible with all the existing Xbox One hardware and software.
