The WWE World title picture on SmackDown Live is blurry at the moment. A.J. Styles is recovering from injury while Dean Ambrose is busy with James Ellsworth. The latest speculation about the main event scene is about Baron Corbin getting a title shot in 2017.
According to Cageside Seats, Corbin is set to get a major push in the early half of next year. He will reportedly be inserted into the main even scene and possibly get a WWE world title shot. The SmackDown roster is pretty thin so it makes sense for the company to push "The Lone Wolf."
WWE World champion A.J. Styles will defend his title against James Ellsworth soon. However, it is expected that Styles is going to retain his title. Ambrose will likely beat up Ellsworth after costing him the championship at the TLC pay-per-view.
With Ambrose out of the title picture, there is no clear cut number one contender. John Cena is still on his hiatus while Bray Wyatt is busy teaming with Randy Orton. The Undertaker is being rumored for a feud with Styles but he is still recovering from hip surgery.
Baron Corbin, who is the prototype Vince McMahon superstar, has the potential to become a WWE World Champion. He already has the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal trophy in his cabinet and fans should expect more from him in the future.
Styles can always turn face and thrive in that role against Corbin in a possible feud between the two. In a recent interview with ESPN (h/t Wrestling Inc.), Corbin said that he knows the sky is the limit for him in the WWE.
The former NFL player added that he has set his sights on the WWE World Title next. He recently ended his feud against Kalisto by defeating him at the TLC PPV and SmackDown Live this Tuesday. Nevertheless, a fresh new feud for the WWE World championship is needed and inserting Baron Corbin is not a bad idea.
