The "Divergent" film series definitely took a rough turn when Lionsgate decided to make the second part of "Divergent Series: Allegiant", titled "Ascendant," into a TV spin-off instead. The film's leads Shailene Woodley and Theo James were rumored to be leaving the series but talks now suggest that the former on-screen lovers are not in good terms.
New Project for "Divergent" Star Shailene Woodley
In an interview with Screenrant, Shailene Woodley previously expressed her distaste for the "Divergent" series to continue with an "Ascendant" TV movie. She said, "I didn't sign up to be in a television show. Out of respect to the studio and everyone involved, they may have changed their mind and may be doing something different, but I'm not necessarily interested in doing a television show."
The 25-year-old Shailene Woodley has just been cast in the Baltasar Kormakur-helmed "Adrift," a tale of one woman's harrowing journey back home after her boat was wrecked by a hurricane. She already spoke of her disinterest in a TV series and taking on another project may not allow her schedule to accommodate filming for "Ascendant."
Shailene Woodley was also recently seen taking a stand against the Dakota Access Pipeline. The "Divergent" series star was even arrested for trespassing and joining a riot. Should Woodley become a full-time activist, she might not be able to handle being the main female protagonist in "Ascendant."
Theo James and Ruth Kearney Break Up Because of Shailene Woodley?
Gamenguide previously reported that Shailene Woodley and Theo James' friendship had gone off course, perhaps because of James' schedule. Now there are rumors circulating that Woodley, who portrayed Tris in the "Divergent" series, is fighting with her co-star James, who played Four. James' girlfriend Ruth Kearney is said to be jealous of her fiance's closeness with Woodley.
If this turns out to be true, perhaps Theo James is keeping his distance from Shailene Woodley or Shailene Woodley is avoiding Theo James. This set-up would make filming scenes for "Ascendant" extremely difficult because in the "Divergent" series, Tris and Four become best friends and lovers.
