Blizzard is on a roll, thanks to its massively popular MMORPG title World of Warcraft. The company already has plans to release what’s supposed to be its sixth expansion pack for the game.
Blizzard president and co-founder Mike Morhaime was recently in an interview with Polygon where he revealed that company is already working on the next expansion pack down the line for the game.
“We also have to start looking further down the road and planning further out. We've already started working on the expansion after this one [Warlords of Draenor],” Morhaime stated.
“We've never done that in the past. We've been doing one expansion at a time, sort of a very linear content creation model, and we've looked at ways that we can parallelize that. So that while we're working on this expansion we're looking at the new one."
He added that he also understands that the company will need to “release them on a faster cadence than we have in the past. So we're investing in the team and our resources to enable us to do that."
Additionally, Morhaime also discussed how important it is to release expansions like Warlords of Draenor at regular intervals to keep the players interested.
“It's going to be on us and our development team to continually look at ways to evolve the game and keep it relevant," Morhaime said, "and look for new ways of maintaining engagement within the game. We view expansions as a huge opportunity to do that.”
The newly revealed Warlords of Draenor expansion, released back in BlizzCon, sends players to the savage world of Draenor which is inhabited by “mighty orcs and haven of the mystic draenei—to fight against and alongside legends from Warcraft’s brutal past.”
Featuring new character models and animations, Blizzard has confirmed that it will also raise the MMO's level cap to 100, with Draenor giving players the option to boost one character (even the newly created ones) immediately to level 90 so as to play the newest content.
