The Virtual Console service on "Nintendo Switch" is expected to welcome GameCube games for the first time, and Super Smash Bros. Melee is tipped to be an early arrival.
"Super Smash Bros. Melee" is a few generations deleted from the current, reigning Smash Bros. title, but its eSports presence has only grown in recent years. That's led to many players who are tired of lugging around old CRT televisions to play the GameCube game on to ask for a "Melee HD," and it sounds like they may finally be getting it.
Independent sources have revealed that "Nintendo European Research & Development (NERD)" has been tasked with working on the Virtual Console service, after impressing Nintendo Co. Ltd with their work on the "Nintendo Classic Mini: Nintendo Entertainment System."
The only thing that worries the developers is that "Nintendo Switch" does not have analog triggers, although other reports have gone against that. There is hope that the "GameCube Controller Adapter" for Wii U will be supported, to eliminate such concerns.
It's already been issued that the upcoming "Nintendo Switch," due out in March, will feature games ported over from the Wii U, which only makes sense as a way to showcase the undersold system's greatest software.
On the virtual console, fans have been left waiting a long time to get their hands on downloadable versions of "GameCube games," with nothing to show for it. "Multiple independent sources have confirmed to them that the Switch will indeed feature GC games as downloadable virtual console titles," as stated by Eurogamer.
Super Smash Bros. Melee remains a clear favorite in the fighting game community. Nintendo Switch preview trailer, Nintendo is clearly aiming to tap into that enthusiasm. Back in the day, the mascot brawler sold 7.09 million copies worldwide and remains the best-selling GameCube game with "Mario Kart: Double Dash."
