In a list that's basically unchanged from 2015, Katy Perry has already been followed by at least 94.5 million Twitter users.
In a post from Time, the politically inclined musician is joined by familiar pop icons that include bitter rival Taylor Swift. Number two in the list is hitmaker Justin Bieber, who is not far behind with 90.2 million followers. Next is "Bad Blood" singer Taylor Swift, Katy Perry's former bff who has become one of her worst detractors, with 82.2 million followers.
Fourth in the list is America's outgoing president, Barack Obama. The ex-POTUS has garnered 80.1 million followers since joining the popular social media platform. The list is followed by Rihanna at 5th place (68.1M), Lady Gaga at 6th (64.6M) and Ellen Degeneres at 7th (63.8M).
Justin Timberlake is in 8th place with 57.3 million followers. Reality TV star Kim Kardashian West is at 9th place with 49.3 million and the last is former teen idol Britney Spears with 49.3 million Twitter followers.
Selena Gomez Is Most Followed Person On Instagram
In related news, Selena Gomez is Instagram's most followed person in 2016 with 103 million followers. Justin Bieber's former flame has even managed to get 5.9 million likes on one of her posts. According to People, the former Disney standout dominated 2016 with a fresh recruit of new followers. It is noted that Pope Francis joined Instagram this year along with Kanye West.
The list is followed by Taylor Swift at second place with 93.6 million followers, Ariana Grande at 3rd with 89.6 million followers, Beyonce at 4th with 88.9 million followers. Kanye West's partner, Kim Kardashian is in 5th place with 87.8 million followers.
Cristiano Ronaldo also made it in the list at 6th place with 82.3 million followers. The football star joins Selena Gomez with the most acquired followers in 2016 and both dominated the top 10 celebrity posts in Instagram. Selena has 7 out of 10, while Ronaldo has 2.
The list is completed with Kylie Jenner at 7th place with 79.5 million followers. Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson at 8th with 71 million followers, Nicki Minaj at 9th with 69 million followers and Kendall Jenner at 10th with 68.9 million followers.
