The long-awaited premiere date for the anime series "Gintama" season 8 has been revealed. The upcoming season to release on Jan. 8, 2017 will be the last one and is given the title of "Gintama Shinsaku."
With the airing of the show "Gintama" season 8 moved to 1:35 AM, the first episode will actually premiere Jan. 9. This change in schedule is a response to the previous unsatisfactory schedule which the show's fans complained about. While the action-comedy anime series is the said to be the longest-running of its kind, having first come out in 2006, it was also reported that the upcoming season will feature the conclusion of the present arc of the manga by Sorachi Hideaki.
TV Tokyo, however, has not provided any information as yet on the directions the series will take, but the said network is running it in the winter of 2017. The next helping of "Gintama" season 8 is meant to allow fans and followers to gain a satisfying end with the sequel, taking its cue from the manga series which is in its final arc.
The previous season of "Gintama" ended in March 2016 and was produced by Sunrise, and the team that brought season 7 to fruition consisted of Yoichi Fujita, Chizuru Miyawaki, and Shinji Takeuchi. It is not known whether the same production and directorial team will be involved in the new season.
The "Gintama" series follows the story of a group known as Yorozuya (anything store) in an alternate Japan where aliens run the world and operate in the country where "anything goes" with the Shogunate as a puppet government. Yorozuya is led by a samurai named Gintoki Sakata with a young apprentice Shinpachi Shimura and an alien female called Kagura. The team performs a multitude of on-demand jobs for their clients.
The manga on which the anime series "Gintama" is based on first came out in 2003. As its following grew, so did its popularity on television for the anime. It has also spawned two anime films. Very soon too, a live action film on the said series will also come out in 2017.
