After some delays, developer WayForward finally confirmed the digital release date for "Shantae: Half-Genie Hero." The rollout happens on December 20 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, Xbox One, PC and a yet to be announced date for Wii U. Kickstarter backers, however, will get their codes starting next week.
"Shantae: Half-Genie Hero's" Kickstarter Campaign: A Huge Success
Kickstarter advices "Shantae: Half-Genie Hero" backers to keep an eye on their inboxes. An important thing to note of is on some consoles, the codes are time stamped to activate on December 12, so don't expect the code to work before then. If the code still doesn't work after the clock flips to December 13 PST, contact WayForward for support. XSEED Games is in charge of the retail version, and according to WayForward, they'll be announcing more details shortly.
"Shantae: Half-Genie Hero" Three-Year Journey
"Shantae: Half-Genie Hero" is kind of a HD reboot for the franchise, which has been mostly seen in pixel art up until now. To recall, WayForward initiated a Kickstarter campaign back in 2013, collecting $950,000, reports TechnoBuffalo.
September of this year saw a difficult time for WayForward, as they announced the cancellation of "Shantae: Half-Genie Hero's" PS3 and Xbox 360 versions due to a lack of interest. Things are gaining momentum for the devs, it seems, given the recent announcement. Things are even better for backers, as WayForward is also hard at work on the post-launch DLC characters and extra content, which will be offered to them free of charge.
"Shantae: Half-Genie Hero" is WayForward's biggest indie game launch to date. Having said that, its support team encourages everyone to check out WayForums should players encounter problems for the first several days. The company also announced that review codes will be distributed to gaming press once Backers are accommodated sometime between December 14 and December 20.
