‘God of War’ Release Date, News & Update: Gameplay Details Are Still Scarce But Shooting Is Almost Done, Says Game Director

Everybody was pretty psyched about everything that happened from this past weekend's PlayStation Experience, although one PS4 game somehow failed to make an appearance. "God of War," the fourth installment in the massively popular action-adventure game, is still highly questionable. However, director Cory Barlog did answer some question on Twitter over the last few days.

According to Barlog, the Sony Santa Monica team is still hard at work with "God of War," adding the game is almost done. Addressing a rumor that implies shooting for "God of War" had finished, the director said there are still things needed to be picked up. "We finished most of the shooting, but there are still some things to shoot," Barlog said.

"God of War" Gameplay Details

In Barlog's interview with LevelUp, the director shared some of the first details of the game, saying "God of War" will be a single-player only game. Though the director recognizes "God of War: Ascension's" multiplayer mode for its innovative take on the concept, he mentioned that the mode needed more depth to become a regular fixture for the franchise moving forward.

Although the reveal trailer for "God of War" hit 14M views on YouTube, the lack of gameplay details has caused an outcry among fans. Previously, Barlog said he'd something special once the trailer reaches 15M views, but the only thing the director can offer for now is a simple "hang in there." He made a bold promise though, saying he'd share more news the soonest he can.

"God of War" Release Date

Sony haven't announced a concrete release date for "God of War," and Barlog didn't hint on a release window either. This vagueness in release dates echoes Sony exec Shuhei Yoshida's previous statement, saying the company has chosen to be more cautious in announcing dates of release, in a report by GamenGuide.

We likely won't hear a solid release date from Sony this month. What "God of War" fans can hold on to right now, is that Sony are working on it, at least according to Barlog.
