Batman: Arkham Origins has a lot more to offer than the first two Arkham games: a bigger, badder Gotham, some of Bats's never before seen toys, and the first time players will see the Batcave in-game. While it won't be much longer until the game is out and players can see it all for themselves first-hand, Warner has gone ahead and posted a nice sneak peek at Origins in the form of a 17 minute gameplay trailer, and you can check it out right here.
The game's Senior Producer Ben Mattes and Gameplay Director Michael McIntyre play narrator and guide viewers through the mechanics of the new title, highlighting the game's combat system and narrative. Over the span of 17 minutes, you'll see the Dark Knight: - explore the Batcave and its various standout areas, mostly the training area, bat computer
- show off the Batwing and fast travel
- beat down and interrogate thugs, and...
- infiltrate a corrupt Gotham City Police Department, and see what's motivating the cops (keep your eyes open for a look at the future comissioner and a young, pre-Batgirl Barbara).
In short, it's a lot more than the TV spot that's going around. Check out all 17 minutes for yourself below.
Batman: Arkham Origins stars a younger, not as experienced Batman we've seen in past Arkham games, and has the criminal Black Mask offering a boatload of cash to whoever can kill the caped crusader. Confirmed classic characters include Penguin, Deadshot, Deathstroke, Scarecrow, Bane, Copperhead, Mad Hatter, Killer Croc, Firefly, the Joker,Anarky, and more recently, Electrocutioner.
Batman is armed with more than just his grapnel gun and batarangs. He's actually carrying a few new toys thrown in for good measure, all to help him pummel thugs throughout a Gotham city that's almost double the size of the one seen in Arkham City. The game will release on the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii U, and PC.
A follow-up, Batman: Arkham Origins - Blackgate, is also in development by Armature Studio, set to release for Nintendo's 2 and 3DS, and the PS Vita the same day.
Blackgate is something of a follow-up and sees a few additional characters, like Catwoman and Bronze Tiger. On the surface, the plot is fairly basic, but expect a few twists and turns here and there. Basically, a prison uprising has begun on the titular prison island, and it's up to Batman to go in and put a stop to the riot. Unlike the open worlds seen in the first twoArkham games, Blackgate will be a 2D sidescroller in the "Metroidvania" vein. You know the drill, explore there, gain this, backtrack there, etc.
There's also a mobile version coming to iOS and Android smartphones and tablets developed by Injustice: Gods Among Us and Mortal Kombat's NetherRealm Studios. All the games will release on their respective platforms worldwide on Oct. 25, 2013.
