Following the footsteps of its fiercest rival Apple, Samsung will likely ditch away the classic 3.5mm headphone jack for the upcoming flagship Samsung Galaxy S8. The Korean tech giant also added that Samsung Galaxy S8 may kill off its home button in favor of the optical fingerprint recognition system.
A report from SamMobile claimed that all existing 3.5mm headphones will not be compatible for the upcoming device as Galaxy S8 will feature a USB Type-C port instead. The USB Type-C port was first seen in Samsung Galaxy Note 7 device.
But with the flak of the Note 7 brought about by its battery problem, the burden to banner this technological leap falls to Galaxy S8. The demise of the 3.5mm headphone jack will make Galaxy S8 slimmer while freeing more space for a massive battery.
On top this, the newest Samsung flagship device is also expected to be equipped with stereo speakers for the first time after the Korean giant acquired Harman International Industries. Harman is a market leader in connected car solutions, with more than 30 million vehicles currently equipped with its connected car and audio systems.
Slated for launch during the 2017 Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain, Samsung Galaxy S8 will boast a QHD bezel-less display, 16- and 8-megapixel dual lens rear cameras, and Qualcomm Snapdragon 830 chipsets. Although a lot of prospects are pointing towards 4K capable smartphones next year, Galaxy S8 will still sport a Super AMOLED 2K display.
The Galaxy S8 will likewise come in 5.1- and 5.5-inch models. With the success in sales of S7 Edge, Samsung will likely continue the production of the curved screen smartphones. The prevailing price tag for Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge are around $670 and $780, respectively. It is expected that the Galaxy S8 will be playing within these price ranges too.
