Months after "Pokemon Go" was released to the world, players have already begun to tire of catching endless streams of Generation 1 Pokemon. The coming of Generation 2 was heavily rumored in no time at all, but nobody knew when exactly developer Niantic Labs was going to roll out an update with new Pokemon. Until now, after a big rumor finally placed Generation 2's release to be around early December.
A leak from a Starbucks employee memo claims that "Pokemon Go" is about to expand with new Pokemon reportedly this Thursday, December 8, not December 7 as mentioned in an earlier GamenGuide report. Reddit user alturrista, who seems to work at a Starbucks, shared the confidential info and speculated that Generation 2 Pokemon might finally be coming to the game, thanks to how the e-mail was worded.
However, it seems as though it's not 100% confirmed that "Pokemon Go" is getting new Pokemon after all. An update to the original Reddit post claims that Starbucks is teaming up with "Pokemon Go" to both come out with a "Pokemon"-themed drink and turn Starbucks branches into either PokeStops or exclusive spawn locations. If it's the latter, it may just be that certain rare Pokemon that's already available in the game will be spawning at these branches, but rumors also say that it could be unreleased Pokemon.
GameSpot reports that files and programming for Generation 2 Pokemon are already stashed somewhere deep in "Pokemon Go"'s code. It's probably only a matter of time until Niantic finally activates the new Pokemon just like that. Ditto was the recent addition to the game, and if Niantic is able to add it, then new Pokemon must be around the corner soon. Better start stocking up your candies for the new evolutions and baby forms of the Generation 1 Pokemon that are coming.
