"Super Mario Run" is launching on iOS devices on Dec. 15 but its launch on other platforms remains a mystery. Even though it is expected to ultimately make its way to Android, nothing is known about its launch on Xbox One and Nintendo Switch. When the game was unveiled on Sept. 7 at an Apple event by Nintendo, the company had also hinted at an Android release too.
Kotaku had also reported about the "Super Mario Run" game expanding beyond iOS some time in the future. This can be as early as 2017 but going by recent reports, it seems Android fans will have to wait. Nintendo game designer Shigeru Miyamoto had also explained the reason behind the game coming to iPhone first.
He explained that iOS offers a certain stability that "Super Mario Run" developers prefer. Apart from the stability of the iOS platform, it also delivers the level of response the developers desire. The game may also get a Nintendo Switch release as the company had filed a patent suggesting it could be their strategy.
NeoGAF re-shared the patent and even mentioned the name "Super Mario Run" directly in their game forum. It also hinted at a Nintendo Switch release. Meanwhile, Microsoft had earlier expressed its interest in bringing Nintendo content to Xbox One. Xbox head Phil Spencer had even stated that he would love to see "Mario" on Xbox.
However, it will be interesting to see whether Nintendo ever releases its biggest console games, including "Super Mario Run" on its rival's hardware. Thus, an Xbox One release is a long-shot though it may come to the console sometime in the future, writes Mic. In a surprising move by Nintendo, it is offering the "Super Mario Run" game at a flat rate and not following the popular micro-transaction system popular among most mobile apps.
