In commemoration of the 30th anniversary of "The Legend of Zelda," Nintendo has released new "Legend of Zelda" Amiibo, including the Link from 1998's "The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time," the 8-bit Link from the NES version of the original game, and the Toon Link and Zelda herself from the 2003 video game "The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker." Nintendo announced the four new special figures in a Tumblr post published over the weekend.
In its post, Nintendo specified the rewards offered by each Amiibo and how each functions with the upcoming "The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild." When scanned, each new Amiibo offers random items that players can use in the forthcoming game in a number of ways.
The "Ocarina of Time" Link Amiibo rewards players with a random amount of raw meat. Cinema Blend points out that while free raw meat seems pointless, it will prove useful in "The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild," where it can be cooked and used to maintain Link's health and stamina. The outlet also notes that the "Ocarina of Time" Amiibo is the older Link in the classic N64 game.
Using the 8-bit Link rewards players with a random number of barrels, which could contain rupees, the in-game currency in the "Legend of Zelda" video game franchise. The Link will reportedly spawn in different barrels in "Breath of the Wild." Players can then break the barrels open to see if they contain any goodies.
The Toon Link Amiibo offers players a random amount of raw fish. Like the raw meat, these fish can also be cooked in "The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild." Players can also choose to store the fish for other purposes. The Toon Link Amiibo, which is based on the GameCube release of "The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker," will draw on the upcoming game's exploration and sailing features.
The fourth Amiibo, Zelda from "The Wind Waker," rewards players with a random variety of plants. These will be useful for crafting in "The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild."
"Breath of the Wild," the 19th main installment in the "Legend of Zelda" franchise, is slated for a 2017 release. It will be made available for the Wii U and the Nintendo Switch.
