Kodak is an iconic name in the photography sector but mobile phones with advanced built-in cameras have made it a thing of the past. In an effort to blend in, the company tries to invade the smartphone segment for the second time with the Kodak Ektra pegged for release this Dec. 9.
Second time a charm?
Kodak tries for the second time to invade the broad smartphone segment with the Kodak Ektra. The photography-focused device is set to release in Europe on Dec. 9 with no word on whether it will make the international scene.
The Kodak Ektra is the company’s second attempt to offer an acceptable smartphone to the market. They previously offered the Kodak IM5 which as most know bombed out. Hopefully, the latest dish will do much better.
The Kodak Ektra was announced back in October, a smartphone tied up to the company’s memorable rangefinder back in the mid-20th century. Being a company known for serving photography throughout, the camera experience is the emphasis of the upcoming smartphone, Android Authority reported.
Kodak Ektra specs
The Kodak Ektra will sport a 5-inch panel running n 1080x1920 pixels and come powered by a dual-core MediaTek Helio x20. It also comes with 3 GB of RAM, 32 GB of expandable storage, a 3,000 mAh battery and run on Android Marshmallow, Kodak reported.
The intriguing part is, of course, the main camera that the Kodak Ektra will have to offer. This comes in the form of a 21 MP main camera with PDAF, OIS, f/2.0 aperture and dual LED flash. The main camera is capable of capturing 4K videos.
Up front, the Kodak Ektra will have a 13 MP front-facing camera with PDAF too. This should be great for selfie-lover who can look forward to better resolution pictures wherever they plan to snap shots or take videos.
The advanced camera specs for the Kodak Ektra hardly comes as a surprise and one thing that may hinder it is the brand. Obviously, the cameras are the big catch here and likely the indicator on whether Kodak should offer it elsewhere and outside Europe.
