The midseason finale of "Lucifer" Season 2 teased the start of romance between Lucifer Morningstar and Chloe Decker. However, Tom Ellis hinted the partners do not end up together in the series.
Tom Ellis, who plays the titular character, said the show would end if Chloe and Lucifer do end up together. The series revolves around the relationship between Chloe and Lucifer and Lucifer's transformation around the detective. If the series would romantically link the pair together, then there would not have been a "Lucifer" Season 2 to begin with.
"The idea that people are rooting for them to get together is great, because when you're making a TV show, that's exactly what you want. But I think if you get these characters together, that's the end of your show," Tom Ellis said in an interview about "Lucifer" Season 2 with TV Insider.
In the same interview, Ellis described Chloe Decker and Lucifer Morningstar's relationship as the "heartbeat" of the show. It is for this reason that the series has yet to reveal Chloe and Lucifer become intimate. The writers are still toying with the idea of shipping them together, since it builds up the mystery and excitement. In turn, fans would want to see more episodes until they finally see the pair end up together.
Suffice to say, the second half of "Lucifer" Season 2 may still not show Chloe and Lucifer become intimate. Fans may not see the crime partners become romantically involved, despite that tease in the midseason finale.
To recap, Lucifer and Chloe had dinner over at Lux, where they shared a few laughter over a glass of wine. The midseason finale saw them slowly move closer to each other for a kiss. Of course, the episode ended without actually revealing if they kissed. If Tom Ellis was right in his assumptions, then Chloe and Lucifer may not end up together at all in "Lucifer" Season 2.
