"Game of Thrones" star Maisie Williams has voiced out a serious point - and this is more important than her Arya Stark's list of names. Williams spoke out on Friday against marine shows, in an attempt to halt the capture and killings of dolphins in Japan.
The 19-year-old "Game of Thrones" star Maisie Williams is an ambassador for Ric O'Barry's Dolphin Project, an organization which hopes to bring an end to dolphin captivity. She joined O'Barry in Taiji, Japan because the place is known for performing dolphin hunts. This staging results in captured dolphins being put up for sale for aquariums and shows while some unsold dolphins end up being used for their meat.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the "Game of Thrones" star Maisie Williams conducted a mini press conference via Skype while visiting Taiji. Stressing that the dolphins should not be captured, she said, "No tank will ever be deep enough, ever be exciting enough [for the dolphins]."
The "Game of Thrones" star Maisie Williams also explained why she has spoke out about this cause. She said that the issue has "struck a chord" in her heart. With that, she added that she felt the need to do something about it in hopes of making a difference.
However, the hunters in the said village, along with their supporters, have already vindicated the doing as tradition. The Japanese government defended it as well saying that the practice is only done for research purposes, Reading Eagle reports.
Even so, the "Game of Thrones" star Maisie Williams reiterated that what she said was not an attack against the said country. She also stressed that she is not condemning anyone in particular. She added that only a small number of fishermen are reaping from the custom and not all Japanese know about Taiji.
