Old school gamers may know that like its 3D Realms' Duke Nukem cousin, Shadow Warrior has a history of, shall we say "unique" weaponry. For example, while sticky bombs and railguns are fairly commonplace in shooters today, the original Shadow Warrior from 1996 marked the first time the weapons would appear in a game, not to mention even more bizarre ones like a decapitated head that could spit all manner of fireballs.
Add this to some tongue in cheek humor (the protagonist's name is Lo Wang, think about it), and what you have is some interesting potential, one that Devolver Digital is taking advantage for its Shadow Warrior remake. That, or someone at the company is a huge "Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels" fan.
If you already have a copy of Saints Row IV on Steam, you'll find yourself with one of the game's most infamous weapons in your collection once you load up Devolver Digital's Shadow Warrior revamp when it releases later this week.
The scandalous and aptly named "Penetrator," or as it's known in layman's term, a giant purple giant dildo bat, will be available to said Shadow Warrior players, who will be wielding it in far more vehemently ways than perhaps it was initially intended, as a blunt object to smack enemies right across their faces...tough, it's possible some people are just into that sort of thing, I'm not here to judge.
A gif from Game Informer shows Lo Wang swinging the "appendage" around like his trademark katana. I can't say if it's as physically damaging as a surgically sharp piece of metal, but mentally? Being beaten do death by a phallus has gotta be hard on the ego.
Heh, "hard." If you don't find the humor in that, well, watch the weapon's charming reload animation, and if that doesn't make you giggle just a little bit, then you're considerably more mature than myself.
This must be part of Devolver's "great opportunity to re-imagine the Shadow Warrior world and bring Lo Wang back to modern gamers."
Besides the Penetrator, the game will also see the return of old favorites like machine guns, Guardian head, and quad barrel shotgun. There's also a brand new crossbow.
Shadow Warrior arrives on PC on September 26.
