Despite a few naysayers here and there, the mobile hit of the summer, Plants vs. Zombies 2, has been a joy. To everyone with an iPhone that is. But Android and Windows Phone owners are still waiting on the free-to-play smash to hit their systems. But since the game's worldwide release in mid-August, neither publisher EA or developer PopCap have given a firm release date when the game is expected to hit other operating systems.
Luckily, a source of Polygon's who happens to be "familiar with EA's operations" is claiming the game will hit Android devices sometime next month. The site reports, "According to the source, Plants vs. Zombies 2 - which launched on iOS last month worldwide, and on Android only in China earlier this month - was given the launch window of October, though no firm release date was revealed. We have reached out to EA to try and find out something more specific for the game's international Android release date."
The game's been a runaway hit since its worldwide launch. PopCap CEO Dave Roberts called tower defense styled title the company's "biggest release" yet.
"It's a big release. It is the biggest release for PopCap," Roberts toldGeekWire. "So far so good. The numbers are looking awesome, and the Apple promo hasn't event kicked in yet," he said. "The fact that we hit number one in the app store charts, based purely on - I mean there's nothing, seriously. I don't think anyone at EA has seen anything go up that fast to the top downloads."
A few days after the game's worldwide release, players logged a combined total of over 15 million hours with over 16 million downloads. "We are grateful and delighted with the incredible reception Plants vs. Zombies 2 has received from consumers around the globe," said Tony Leamer, franchise business director for Plants vs. Zombies. "We certainly had high hopes for the game, but to see fans playing the game so quickly and in such huge numbers is truly amazing."

For the time being, Plants vs. Zombies 2: It's About Time is currently available exclusively through Apple's AppStore and iTunes on various iOS devices.
