When you come upon a story of a deaf girl being bullied by a normal student, you can't help but fill sympathy over them. But come years later and the same boy who had bullied her wants to be her friend, it's surely a story to tell. Not surprising as the ticket sales for "Koe no Katachi" has sold over 1.7 million tickets and reaped over 2.2 million yen.
"Koe no Katachi"or 'A Silent Voice' started out as a simple manga which hit home to the masses. With its simple plot and its great artwork, the characters in this title give you the much needed feels that not all anime could give. In fact, due to "Koe no Katachi's" ticket sales, it's been rumored to be the next Kimi no Nawa on the anime movie list. However, Kimi no Nawa still dominates the charts, as well as being a Makoto Shinkai film.
One good thing to point out why "Koe no Katachi's" ticket sales are good might also be because of the length of the movie. "Koe no Katachi's" tells its story over two hours, which is why getting your seats for this movie is worth it. If you're not familiar with the story and hoping to understand the hype about it, there's a plot summary for your perusal. However, if you might want to avoid reading the bulk of the summary else you won't be enjoying the film. It's not often that you encounter a handicapped main character, especially in the Shoujo romance department.
With a story that would surely tug your heartstrings and a different take on the usual shoujo romance, "Koe no Katachi's" ticket sales are truly a great result of a manga written and drawn very well. We've yet to see if it would top Makoto Shinkai's Kimi no Nawa however, 'Koe no Katachi' has an appeal that definitely defines itself.
