The movie's VR experience puts a person into the body of a patient who is strapped to a fictional virtual reality machine dubbed the Animus that pitches into another immersive setting, which is the recollection of a 500-year-gone ancestor.

CNET reports that Matt Lewis, the "Assassin's Creed" VR project director aims to lift the bar for VR in general and break some rules as well. "360 video experiences should be just as powerful and rich as an actual film," he explained. "We're in the Pong era of VR right now," he added.

An immersive technology, Virtual Reality uses headsets to let viewers feel like they are in the middle of an adventure and "Assassin's Creed" VR experience can prove it. VR is one of the popular consumer technologies courtesy of tech giants such as Samsung, Facebook, Google and Sony and although the majority of VR content has focused on gaming, it has also fascinated the Hollywood's interest.

It is based on the famous gaming franchise where Oscar-nominee Michael Fassbender stars in the movie as a felon sent off to the genetic memories of his ancestor in the course of the Spanish Inquisition.

Furthermore, Lewis relied on some plain cinematic tricks for different effects on "Assassin's Creed" VR experience where the viewer is being lifted around 150 feet in the air. He also said that they used other things such as music for the transition to be dramatic while the movement is subtle.

The "Assassin's Creed" movie VR experience is available for Samsung Gear VR and Oculus Rift for free and it becomes available on Facebook as a 360-degree video soon. Starting Dec. 9 until Jan. 1, AMC Theaters in Los Angeles, San Francisco, New York and Austin will have Oculus Rift demo kiosks play the experience for theater-goers.
