Telltale Games confirmed Marvel's "Guardians of the Galaxy: The Telltale Series" as its latest project during the 2016 Game Award ceremony on Thursday. A 48-second teaser video was shown during the announcement however it did not have much information about the game.
The trailer suggested that the game will take its cues from the "Guardians of the Galaxy" movies rather than the comics. The video started on some blue planet followed by a close-up shot of Peter Quill's Walkman. The headphones appeared to be floating by in zero-gravity, which revealed a tape inside labeled as "Rad Mix" instead of the "Awesome Mix" from the MCU. King Harvest's 1972 classic "Dancing in the Moonlight" also evoked the soundtrack from the first "Guardians of the Galaxy."
Marvel's "Guardians of the Galaxy: The Telltale Series," just like "Batman" and "The Walking Dead", is an interactive game series. Gamespot reports that Telltale Games Co-Founder and CEO Kevin Bruner said that the new Telltale game will let the players take on multiple roles within the ragtag band of heroes as well as take the pilot's seat in directing their escapades around the universe.
Senior Vice President Games & Innovation Marvel Entertainment, Jay Ong, said that Marvel's "Guardians of the Galaxy: The Telltale Series" will showcase the game developers' rich legacy of storytelling. This will make the fans experience an "original, character-driven narrative."
The Comicbookmovie suggests that Marvel's "Guardians of the Galaxy: The Telltale Series" will also be available in the market as an exclusive season pass disc that will include the season's first episode and will give access to the following four episodes as they become available for download via online updates. No announcements yet from the game developer as for the release date for specific platforms.
The five-part episodic adventure game is going to be digitally available on home consoles, PC and mobile devices sometime in 2017. The exact release date is yet to be announced.
