Imagine being followed by a friend five minutes after you bid goodbye to each other? In a recent Uber Update announced by the company, they confirmed; the app continues to track the riders whereabouts five minutes after they alighted the lift. For some, the idea is a security risk to customers, but Uber thinks otherwise.
In a statement released by Uber, it said "We do this to improve pickups, drop-offs, customer service, and to enhance safety," Uber says in regards to its location data collection on its Help section." The latest Uber update can be used to further personalize the rider's lift history.
As early as 2015, Uber has proposed this scheme, but it is only now that they went ahead in implementing the new feature. Also, this is Uber's first time to offer to collect riders data while the application is running on the background.
The said feature also allow drivers to pick up riders on their whereabouts instead of the customer having to enter a certain pickup point. Uber on the hand discloses that, riders can opt in or out of the service. If they choose to join Uber will find it easier to spot the rider, even without actually entering the location on the Uber application.
Meanwhile, another Uber update has also arrived and it is in the form of an anti bill shock application. Now, riders can hail Uber while simultaneously knowing their fare, including other charges. This way, riders will not be shocked at the end of their travel on overcharges.
