A reboot for "The Mummy" is well underway and the first trailer has finally been unveiled. Tom Cruise himself took to social media to share the short but satisfying clip for the highly anticipated reboot.
Tom Cruise and Annabelle Wallis are seen in what appears to be a serious and dramatic conversation in the trailer for "The Mummy" reboot. "I saw her. She is real," the "Jack Reacher" actor tells the "Pan Am" star. The character names for both stars and their co-stars have yet to be revealed.
IGN notes that the short clip gives viewers some sort of a quick tease on how powerful the villain in "The Mummy" will be. The teaser also says, "Welcome to a new world of gods and monsters," implying that the antagonist will be portrayed differently from what moviegoers saw in the 1999 film starring Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz.
The outlet goes on to suggest that "The Mummy" may feature more than one monster or god in the reboot. If the speculations are true, fans can expect Tom Cruise's character to face a whole bunch of foes. Multiple villains could also mean a deeper story to what's already known of the upcoming film.
In the synopsis obtained by Collider, Sofia Boutella will be playing the role of an ancient princess who will be awakened in the modern times. "The Mummy" reboot will portray this ancient princess as someone whose powers can "defy human comprehension." The "Star Trek Beyond" star's character will see herself in modern London where she will raise chaos to avenge what has been done to her in the past.
"The Mummy" reboot has an amazing cast including Jake Johnson of "Jurassic World," Courtney B. Vance of "The People V. O.J. Simpson," and finally, Oscar awardee Russell Crowe. The remake is directed by Alex Kurtzman and is co-produced by Chris Morgan.
The much anticipated film hits theaters on June 9, 2017. Stay tuned for more updates!
