Grand Theft Auto 5 for PlayStation 4 listed via Amazon, then removed

There’s not much time left before Rockstar’s upcoming Grand Theft Auto 5 finally becomes available to the huge number of fans eagerly awaiting it. But what about the prospects of the game on the next generation consoles? It seems like there has been some development on that recently.

According to reports, Amazon Germany recently listed the upcoming title for a release on PlayStation 4, only to remove the listing soon after. If fans can remember correctly, the game is yet to receive any official release date (not even a teaser or hint) on either PlayStation 4 or Xbox One, or even a confirmation from Rockstar that the game will hit the next-gen platforms. However, Amazon Germany surely had some previous information which led the retailer to put up the listing in the first place.

The listing was initially discovered on Amazon Germany by NeoGaf user Sn4ke_911. Apparently, the listing not only mentioned that the next Grand Theft Auto title is heading over to Sony’s next generation console, but also showed a picture of the cover image for the game on PlayStation 4.

While this may have already been tagged as a hoax, the new listing for the game on PS4 should is a sign of hope for all those waiting to the play the biggest Grand Theft Auto while utilizing the horsepower and the hardware of the new consoles.

While this is an Amazon listing related to the game, since the listing was later removed by the retailer itself, it’s safe to tag the post as a potential leak for the game, for which a number of things have been made public before the game's launch.

The last word we heard from Rockstar on the game releasing for next-gen systems was from Rockstar North President Leslie Benzies, who said that the company is waiting to see what will happen with the game on the current console generation before going next-gen, simply stating, "We'll get the current gen version out first and see what happens in the future."

Historically, Rockstar hasn't made many GTA titles available on multiple consoles, at least not as a DIRECT port, but when they do, it was often years between releases. Sure, Grand Theft Auto III and San Andreas found their way to PS3 and Xbox 360 via the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live, but there was nothing distinct between these versions.

This has us skeptical on the game making its way over to the PS4 or Xbox One, but Rockstar hasn't denied the possibility either.

Grand Theft Auto 5 is currently scheduled for a launch on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 later this month.
