Earlier in November 2016, Apple launched a battery repair program for the iPhone 6s. Now, the company provided a tool that will let iPhone 6s users determine whether their device from the power problem, making it eligible for free repair or replacement.
Affected iPhone 6s from September to October 2015
Apple recently provided an online option for iPhone 6s users to input a serial number to find out whether their unit can have its battery replaced for free. A few iPhone 6s units manufactured from September to October 2015 were discovered to have a defective battery, which causes these to suddenly shut down.
Apple iPhone 6s units that were made between the given dates will have their battery replaced by Apple for free, if they experience the sudden shutdown issue. The iPhone 6s handsets to be replaced have to be in good working condition.
Apple will not replace the battery for free if a unit suffers from a cracked screen, which may impair the battery replacement. To check the serial number of an iPhone 6s, users should go to Settings, then General, then About. The serial number can be copied and used on the Apple website for submission and checking.
Causes of the Battery Issue
BGR reported that the China Consumers Associated indicated that Apple also has to take additional measures, since the iPhone 6s battery issue affects other iPhone models, including the iPhone 6, iPhone6 Plus and iPhone 6s Plus. It is also possible that the battery problem is related to the iOS 10.1.1 software update. A software bug may be triggering battery issues together with the hardware problem.
Apple iPhone 6s owners are advised to check online whether their device is eligible for the program. They can visit an Apple retail store, or contact an Apple Authorized Service Provider or Apple Support to get assistance.
Some users who may have previously paid to replace their affected units can be reimbursed by Apple accordingly. More updates and details on the Apple iPhone 6s are expected soon.
