Multiple users have been reporting a camera problem with the Google Pixel. The Pixel XL is already reported to be getting the same imaging issue as well. The issue is described to be more invasive and is most likely linked to the phone's camera app.
GSMArena states that a certain member from the "Pixel User Community" initiated a thread last October 27. In it, the user describes an issue with the Google Pixel's camera, wherein the application freezes with "pink/purple vertical lines." The user also claims it occurs regularly but "not all the time." To troubleshoot the issue, the user was told to factory reset the phone after clearing its cache and data. The problem reportedly persisted even in safe-mode. A soft-reset was the only option that seemed to work, albeit temporarily.
Ever since the Google Pixel camera issue was posted on the Google Product Forums, other users have voiced the same problem they encountered. Owners using the international versions of the Pixel units supposedly discovered that the problem usually occurs when the phone has poor signal coverage. They also noted that it never happens when the device is on airplane mode.
Another camera issue was also previously encountered by users who dubbed it the "halo effect." It appeared that the Google Pixel's camera was prone to lens flare. After multiple posts regarding this issue flooded the Google Product Forums, a Googler was able to respond and acknowledge the problem. He was able to explain what causes the lens flare issue and promised that a future software update would fix it.
The Google Pixel is Google's newest flagship smartphone. It was officially launched on Oct. 20 and came with a 32GB or 128GB internal storage. The phone comes in two sizes and three colors. The Pixel smartphones have replaced Google's long-running Nexus series.
