How Respawn ‘hand picked’ external studio for Titanfall on Xbox 360

Developer Respawn Entertainment is currently developing the Xbox One and PC versions of the upcoming mecha shooter Titanfall. However, the responsibility of developing the title for the Xbox 360 has been handed over to an external developer, and apparently, this studio has been “hand picked” by the current team in Respawn. The developer, as of now, is unnamed.

Publisher EA, in an exclusive one-on-one with CVG, stated: “The 360 version of Titanfall is being developed by an independent studio hand picked by Respawn. The two studios are working closely to ensure the two versions are both delivered at the same level of polish and quality that fans expect."

While the new game from Respawn is set to arrive as a Microsoft exclusive release, EA Games executive Frank Gibaeu went on to explain why Titanfall is a Xbox One exclusive.

"One of the things that struck me this week is how a tactical deal with one of our platform partners has been blown out and perceived as strategic tilt - that's a messaging error on our part. There is no strategic tilt," he stated earlier when Titanfall was in news with questions raised whether EA has something special going on with Microsoft behind the scenes.

"The Sony platform and the Xbox platform are both very important to us. If you look at the previous generation we did tactical deals with both Sony and Microsoft throughout the cycle. Titanfall is different, it's an EA Partners game - everything else is platform agnostic."

As of now, there have been a number of deals that have been struck between EA and Microsoft. While the launch day editions of the Xbox One are prepped to come with a free copy of FIFA 14, the game will also offer an Xbox-exclusive Ultimate Team Legends mode.

Gibeau also added at that time that Sony has been operating remarkably well on the next-gen transition. He said that the PS4’s hardware is hot, and the company is clear and consistent with its policies.

He stated that Sony is “showing some amazing things with indies, so overall I couldn't be more pleased with how they're executing. I hope both systems are successful - EA succeeds when more platforms are doing well.”

Titanfall is currently set for a 2014 release.
