"Street Fighter V" producer Yoshinori Ono discusses the game's rising popularity, attributing it to the success of Sony's Playstation 4 platform. Co-producer Tomoaki Ayano believes that the Playstation 4's increasing user-base contributed to the game's success.
Ono talks with Famitsu (via EventHubs) about how Japanese "Street Fighter V" players compared to the world in terms of skill. The producer claims "the gap between Japan and rest of the world is gradually decreasing." He then follows by saying "Japan has a very high total level." He believes their top players always playing against one another is the reason for their success.
Famitsu mentions that the "Capcom Pro Tour" lets top players from different countries fight against each other, which helps them level up. According to Ono, it also helps local players exchange strategies with international contestants. The produces also hints that media sharing is another aspect that helps people improve. High-level "Street Fighter V" strategies can be learned from top players who stream their matches, while replays from tournaments can also be used to learn new techniques.
The "Capcom Cup 2016" tournament is scheduled for Dec. 3 to 4, 2016. GamenGuide recently reported about the prize pool, tournament format, and qualified players. 32 players worldwide have qualified for the event that seeks to crown this year's "Street Fighter V" champion. The third placer grabs $25 thousand, second place nets the winner $60 thousand, while the champion takes home $120 thousand. Each winner will also reportedly get undisclosed bonus amounts taken from the proceeds of Capcom's Pro Tour DLC sales.
