We all know that the Sony-made not-so-popular handheld Vita has been given a second shot at life by Sony after the company previously revealed that the handheld will have a major role to play alongside the upcoming next generation PlayStation 4. Now, there’s more to follow up on the claim from Sony.
Discussing about the Remote Play option that connect the PlayStation 4 with the Vita, President of Sony’s Worldwide Studios for SCE Shuhei Yoshida recently revealed on Twitter that users will be able power on their PlayStation 4s with the Vita.
As a reply to a fan on Twitter asking: “Can you turn on ps4 while ps4 is in standby mode using ps vita via remote play,” Yoshida just simply replied “yes.” Previous to the new confirmation, Sony had already stated earlier this year that users would be able to play PlayStation 4 games on the PlayStation Vita via Remote Play. And that the technology would use Cloud computing that would enable players to take their PS4 titles on the go.
“Remote Play on the PS4 system fully unlocks the PlayStation Vita system's potential, making it the ultimate companion device. With the PS Vita system, gamers will be able to seamlessly play a range of PS4 titles on the beautiful 5-inch display over Wi-Fi access points in a local area network,” the company officially states.
But the Vita-PS4 integration doesn’t really stop there. Back in July, Yoshida himself confirmed that the PS Vita can act as a second PlayStation 4 controller, provided the specific game titles have that functionality built into them.
Yoshida's confirmation came via Twitter that time. When asked, "if the PS Vita 'The Ultimate companion' Can be used as a second controller on the PS4?" Yoshida wrote: "In a normal sense, no. Unless a game is specifically programmed to allow such use of PS Vita."
While all that sounds quite thrilling, not everybody believes that the Vita still has a shot at gaining momentum in the handheld market. Wedbush Securities analyst Michael Pachter previously shared insights on the prospects of the Vita.
Pachter stated: "I think if they made the PS Vita in different colors it wouldn't sell more. The only thing that's going to sell more Vitas is compelling software. God, I shudder to tell you how many units of Vita were sold this month, but the answer is 'not very many.'"
"The Vita is dead, it's over. It's a really great device that nobody thinks they need so no one's buying it - it is really slick, if you get one you will like it."
The PlayStation 4 is scheduled for a release on Nov. 15 in the United States and Nov. 29 in Europe.
