World AIDS Day News & Update: Apple Teams Up With U2’s Bono By Launching (RED) Charity Accessories & Special App Store Content

Apple's partnership with (RED), an HIV/AIDS advocacy organization founded by U2 singer Bono, spans a decade-long and will continue to prosper with the gadget giant's recent announcement. To coincide with today's World AIDS Day, Apple is introducing a new line of products, special limited-edition items for games and special content to get customers join the fight against AIDS.

Apple Goes Red For World AIDS Day

The products included in the latest (RED) initiative are the iPhone 7 battery pack case and App Store games such as "Clash of Clans" and "Angry Birds." Beats Solo 3 Wireless headphones are also available and some iTunes proceeds will benefit Bono's organization, all for World AIDS Day. Apple announced it will to donate $1 to (RED) for every item purchased at an Apple Store using Apple Pay. In addition, Bank of America will match the price if purchases made on the Apple Pay are done using one of its cards, reports CNET.

We've been part of (RED) from the beginning," said Lisa Jackson, Apple's VP. "[The partnership] really aligns with who we are as a company," she added. Apple's World AIDS Day campaign has raised over $360M, which includes partners such as Bank of America, Coca-Cola and Starbucks. Solely, Apple has raised almost $120M, making the company the largest corporate Global Fund contributor in the world.

World AIDS Day According To Tim Cook

In an interview with USA Today, Apple CEO Tim Cook explains the company's World AIDS Day plans. "Of course corporations should have values, because people should have values," Cook said.

Apple has already bedecked its store with (RED) signs and widened the types of purchases that will be directed to the organization, which will help provide AIDS/HIV medicines. To mark World AIDS Day, 400 Apple stores will be turning their logos red, or at least sport (RED) window decals.
