Rockstar’s upcoming massive open world thriller Grand Theft Auto 5 is easily one of the highly anticipated games of the year. While we are already aware that players will now deal with not one, but three different characters in the game, there are still some more details to be obtained about the game’s open world.
Recently, Rockstar North president Leslie Benzies was in an interview with CVG where he spoke about GTA 5’s open world and how the company plans to support the game with the next generation nearly upon us. For those who are not aware, the company is only focusing on the current console generation for the game.
When talking about the upcoming in-game world of the new title and how it will support the game on the current generation consoles, Benzies stated: “We already have plans for what the next world holds in terms of missions, new content, clothes, apartments, for the next while. But we really want to see what people are playing, and we're putting a lot of effort into the back end, so we can keep an eye on exactly how long people are spending in deathmatches, races, and all the other modes - just to see what they're doing.”
“And if we see any peaks anywhere, then we know where to concentrate our efforts. There's not a lot of data out there for us. There's very few games like GTA Online - so we'll play it by ear and see what the consumers want.”
Benzies has also confirmed that there’s not much to choose between the versions of the game for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, and that fans can rest assured that nobody has an added edge over the other.
“This is probably the first game we've done where both platforms have been running in parallel. There's very, very little difference in the development state of them both. They're both very similar. It would be hard to tell them apart,” he added.
Sticking to the topic of GTA Online, as far as a comparison of heists in the online mode with that in the single player is concerned, Benzies stated that while the heists will initially be simpler, the company has plans “to set up heists that could contain twenty individual components. A lot of these questions are hard to answer because there's now, and then there's what we have in our heads for the future. But to answer your question: initially, they'll be fairly straightforward heists, but they will get more complex as time goes on.”
Grand Theft Auto 5 is set for a Sept. 17 release on PS3 and Xbox 360.
