"Z Nation" is not going anywhere as a fourth season has been confirmed. The zombie apocalypse drama has recorded high ratings for the NBC Universal-owned SyFy channel. That alone would be enough to remove all doubt for viewers wondering if they will be seeing more of this show soon. The fourth season is slated for a 2017 release and will again consist of 13 exciting episodes to the delight of its fans.
The Hollywood Reporter says that "Z Nation" has been one of SyFy's biggest assets since it started airing as viewers would flock over each episode of it. Its last episode for the ongoing season aired last November 18 and that left viewers of the show just asking for more and more.
The post-apocalyptic drama starring Kellita Smith, Keith Allan and DJ Qualls averaged 1.2 million viewers per episode with over 500,000 of them in the advertiser-targeted adults from 18 to 49 years old. Since it was first aired, the show immediately rose to be one of the top 10 most watched scripted stories on cable TV.
The renewal of "Z Nation" comes as a small surprise since considering the good ratings, it is also quite noteable that Syfy has been loading up on more science fiction for the past few years. The network has found success with a roster that boasts of "12 Monkeys," "Channel Zero," "Killjoys," "Van Helsing," "Winona Earp," "Dark Matter," "The Magicians" and "The Expanse."
A cooler, more gory and more fun version of "The Walking Dead" would be "Z Nation." TV by the Numbers reports that this series has been praised by viewers due to its lighter tone as compared to the morally dark "The Walking Dead" which has recently been criticised because of its season opener.
"Z Nation" is created by Craig Engler and Karl Schaefer and takes place three years after a zombie endemic engulfs the entirety of the USA. A group of heroes then surface and do their best to transport the only known survivor of the endemic all the way from New York to California where the last virus lab standing is waiting to receive his blood.
