Pocket Fort HD for iOS: Just because it’s free, doesn’t mean you need to download it [REVIEW]

On the surface, Pocket Fort HD looked like a decent, town building game, with a healthy prospect of becoming an intense and addictive multiplayer with loads of player-versus-player battles. However, appearances can be deceiving, because it's actually the exact opposite.

The first thing that comes to mind with Pocket Fort HD is its almost eerie resemblance with Clash of Clans (which still has a very special place in my heart). The main motive of the game for players is to gather resources - like energy and gold - and spend them to construct defenses, train soldiers and more.

Players can also send their forces out on a raid on enemy bases, or repair their own base when they're attacked. New in-game features and add-ons can be unlocked by upgrading various buildings, with the option to remove not-so-important stuff from the map to make more room for expansion.

Pocket Fort HD offers pretty colors with well-designed cartoon-like characters and amazing animation. The option of relocating any structure in the game with just a tap of finger, rather than any special command, makes the game even more attractive. However, sadly, the game starts falling apart after all that.

The most obvious issue with the game is how fast it can turn boring. Since the game is a free title, we can't expect anything ground breaking, but it's really sad to see a game with such major potential being wasted due to some issues based purely on developer negligence. This, also after the game has so much more to offer.

Just because the game's a free-to-play title, meeting a deadline still doesn't justify a release. Moreover, it would also help if the developer made the game a bit faster than it actually is.

It is sad to know that only two build tasks can take place at the same time, lest players want to reach into their wallets. Otherwise, it takes around a half an hour (or even more) to complete a structure. This is a major threat to all those who look for fast gameplay. All other aspects of the game follow suit.

The majority of gameplay is spent concentrating on building more structures. But that's no big deal, right? Just kill time by sending your troops to pillage somebody else's land in the meantime. Well, you will be disappointed to know that it only takes just a couple of minutes to accomplish that, and there will come a time when you grow tired of sending your troops to get killed.

To sum up, Pocket Fort HD is amazingly slow and all that pretty graphics and colors never really make up for that. Still if you want to get a glimpse of the game, feel free to download. After all, the game's price is it's only redeeming quality.
