Call of Duty: Black Ops 2's latest DLC, Vengeance, is a pretty costly affair with its $15 price tag. That being said, it doesn't mean that the DLC isn't worth the money spent. Vengeance is a brand new multiplayer map pack for Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 that offers four new aggressive multiplayer maps, and one new scenario for the popular zombie mode, "Buried." It's the third piece of DLC after Revolution and Uprising.
Vengeance adds four new multiplayer maps to the equation: Rush, Detour, Uplink and Cove. Rush, however, has to stand out from the rest owing to how well it plays out a close quarter combat scenario with non-stop action.
Detour, on the other hand, takes place on a narrow highway bridge. While the entire map looks like a lookalike avatar of the previous Hijack map, the main difference here is that the action doesn't take place on a boat this time around, but on the highway. The developers have done well to place cars, small roadblocks and a couple of small buildings strategically that players can use while fighting to survive.
The other map - Uplink - might cause some players to have a case of déjà vu, with some exceptionally similar features to one of the original Call of Duty: Black Ops map, Summit. However, it should be noted that the map is played at nighttime, and it can be a tough affair to hunt down your enemies in the dark. I actually stopped playing the map midway out of frustration, but came back later to give it another shot. Sadly, the frustration part was still present.
Cove, however, is entirely different, set on a beautiful island covered with rocks and a number of useful little under-passes. This is one of those maps that are actually a treat for the eyes with lush and striking environment.
Coming down to the scenario for the zombie mode, "Buried" is the new Zombie map with a new story to add. Apart from a new story, the map offers a fresh theme and, yes, Easter eggs. It seems like the A.I. for zombies has evolved for the map, with a new undead-killing experience. However, most of us will only care about shooting zombies left and right, as it doesn't matter which map they are on, and "Buried" maintains that experience like a boss.
The only disappointment I had was with Uplink (maybe because I get killed a lot). It seems like all other maps are quite amazing. However, the one true question here is how many of you would like to spend $15 in the first place for five measly maps and a re-worked weapon from another CoD title? We'd guess quite a few, owing to the massive popularity the Call of Duty franchise has boasted over the years.
The DLC is as good as a new Call of Duty game, so even if it pains you a little in the first place to spend that money, rest assured that it won't go to waste - also I'm guessing you'll play Uplink far better than me.
Make sure you give Vengeance a shot at the very least. Treyarch has a habit of eventually offering trial runs for Black Ops 2 DLC, something it will likely be continuing for Vengeance. We'll let you know when the company makes such an offer.
