There have been talks of Apple ditching the Home button in favor of a fingerprint scanner built into the screen. Even though this concept is for the iPhone 8 2017, latest reports suggest that the technology can make its way much before with the Apple iPad Pro 2. The device is slated for an early 2017 release.
According to Tech Radar, Macotakara has revealed that an upcoming iPad model (probably the iPad Pro 2) will have a 10.9-inch screen with that feature. The site is notorious for Apple leaks that most of the time turn out to be true. As per an informed supply chain source, the device will have the same footprint as the 9.7-inch iPad Pro.
This could be possible due to the larger screen as a result of removing the Home button. Apple will be able to shrink the bezel to make it happen. However, in order to achieve this, Apple needs to make the 10.9-inch iPad Pro 2 a bit thicker than the 9.7-inch model, almost 7.5mm, up from 6.1mm. The FaceTime camera will be there on the top bezel.
The same source has also hinted at a 3mm thicker 12.9-inch iPad Pro 2 suggesting that this model may also drop the Home Button. Apple has not confirmed anything as of now. Earlier reports had suggested at a 10.5-inch Apple iPad Pro 2 but this seems to be false. Whatever be the case, these features suggest a massive change in the iPad Pro 2 range.
Many tech enthusiasts believe the Apple iPad Pro 2 could come with increased RAM power and upgraded processor. A10X processors could be used and the device could run on iOS 11. 3GB RAM is smaller models and 4GB RAM in the bigger ones have been speculated.
