‘Dark Souls 3’ Latest News & Updates: Virtual Reality Version Coming In 2017? No Sequel In The Works

There are rumors that FromSoftware Inc. is currently planning to create a virtual reality (VR) version of "Dark Souls 3." During the Game Developers Conference 2016, Sony Interactive Entertainment showed that 230 game developers were working on titles for PlayStation VR, including "Dark Souls," which may release in 2017.

VRFocus reported that during the 2016 Golden Joysticks Awards, "Dark Souls 3" producer Atsuo Yoshimura was asked whether they are working on the title for VR. Yoshimura answered that they are currently hoping for the game to launch in VR, although he did not disclose more details whether "Dark Souls 3" VR is already in development.

It is still uncertain whether the VR version will be created from scratch, or adapted from a regular platform mode. Fans expect FromSoftware to provide more details at PlayStation Experience in December 2016.

In the past, FromSoftware presented unique ways to play "Dark Souls." One approach required players to use their voices, feet and a "Guitar Hero" peripheral to defeat difficult bosses. The final boss in "Dark Souls 3" can be beaten via a dance pad.

The game developer previously shared its interest in VR, with YuiTanimura, director of "Dark Souls 2," saying that the franchise may be effective with VR headsets. FromSoftware also featured a video that hinted how they are aiming for their next title to include PlayStation VR support.

"Dark Souls 3" is a 2016 action RPG that launched for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. It is the fourth game in the series, and has been well-received by gamers and critics, making it the fastest selling game in the history of Bandai Namco. The 2016 game followed "Dark Souls 2" very closely in terms of game design, but with new combat features, weapons and skills.

GameRant stated that FromSoftware is not yet inclined to launch the sequel to "Dark Souls 3," but may be more interested in creating a re-imagination of previous titles from the series for VR. The story and gameplay will likely remain the same, although "Dark Souls" VR players will have a new interesting way to finish the game.
