The FPS F.E.A.R is back in the new, and this time the nightmare is coming free of cost. According to reports, Aeria Games, known for its free-to-play games, has announced that it will be releasing the next F.E.A.R. game, and that like Aeria's other games, will be a free title available for everybody online.
F.E.A.R Online has been developed by Korean company Inplay Interactive and will be made available in the United States by Aeria Games. The game adds a new chapter in the F.E.A.R., delivering hardcore multiplayer shooting action while also revealing facts and dark secrets surrounding Alma Wade.
The game will act as an online co-op extension of the 2009 console release, F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin, and will also utilize the same FPS style of game play while expanding on the Project Origin story.
“We are thrilled to present the next entry in one of the most popular horror franchises of the last decade,” said Tom Nichols, Vice President of PC Games, Aeria Games. “F.E.A.R. Online will bring back the tense, heart-pounding action that the series is known for and make it accessible to a huge online community of competitive players.”
F.E.A.R Online is said to “focus on several team combat modes spanning over ten ominous maps packed with grotesque details such as still-twitching bodies hanging from meat hooks and messages smeared in blood.” There will be battles “between Armacham Technology Corporation (ATC) and the elite F.E.A.R. team.” Additionally, F.E.A.R. 3’s famous Soul King mode also makes a return in the game, and will allow players to possess enemies for new abilities and collect more fallen souls compared to their opponents.
“The story also continues in cooperative scenarios that detail the terrifying occurrences surrounding the F.E.A.R. team parallel to the events of F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin. Up to four players can team up and fight for their lives against both hostile Armacham personnel and hideous monsters lurking around every corner,” the page further adds.
The first F.E.A.R. game, F.E.A.R: First Encounter Assault Recon, was developed by Monolith Productions and published by Vivendi Universal in 2005. Later, a couple of expansions were released for the game called Extraction Point and Perseus Mandate.
The next in line, F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin, was published by WB Games in 2009, was followed by the expansion F.E.A.R. 2: Reborn, which released later that year.
