In season 1 episode 9 of science fiction "Westworld" TV series, the mystery behind "Arnold" was finally unveiled. "The Well-tempered Clavier" episode aired on November 27 has had a few revelations including the character of Bernard Lowe characterized by Jeffery Wright, an artificial being that plays as a host and controlled by Robert Ford, played by Anthony Hopkins.
In last night's episode, it was learned that Lowe's artificial existence is actually a tribute to Arnold, one of the co-founders of the Western-themed park. And Lowe was a creation of Ford. It was not surprising then that when Bernard realized he was a host controlled by Ford for Arnold, he decided to end his existence with a gun, as commanded by his creator.
Another revelation was the person behind Arnold's death. It was Dolores, potrayed by Evan Rachel Wood. Although it seemed unlikely that Dolores would just wake up one day and harbors a feeling of wanting to kill Arnold, there is the possibility that she only did it at Ford's calling. Ford's character in the "Westworld" show is played in the sense that he has this control over almost all hosts and after Dolores killed Arnold, it was likely that Ford erased such memory from her.
There were scenes on the show about Dolores and Arnold having some conversations and episode 9 showed the church as the key to triggering some of her memories, although the church tower has been shown already in the previous episode. One memory flashed was Dolores being underneath it- at the park's backstage area where all the park's hosts are created, repaired and cleansed. From that memory came a myriad of others such as the one where the hosts were mutilated for cleanup; and on another, was a scene where everything was normal and she was clad in her prairie dress. There was also a flash of memory where while wearing a trail ensemble, she was attacked by Logan and on a different memory, she was just fine.
The 10th episode shall be aired on December 4, 2016 on HBO Channel.
