After a long bout of silence, EA has finally given some plot details for its longtime Call of Duty rival, Battlefield 4.
EA posted the details on its blog earlier today, so obviously, it's official, and spoilers are more than likely. So read on below at your own risk...
The game stars a new protagonist to the Battlefield series, that of Sergeant Daniel Recker, a member of the elite Tombstone Squad. Everything starts out well enough. As Decker, you're on your way to Azerbaijan to collect intelligence from a defecting Russian General. It's from him you learn that an Admiral is planning a coup in China, and Russia is ready to back him up.
You don't have to be an expert in foreign relations and politics to realize this would cause one hell of a domino effect that would see the whole planet embroiled in war.
Knowing what you now know, you and the rest of Tombstone set out to Shanghai to extract a group of VIP's. China isn't exactly safe for Americans, as the country has been implicated in the assassination of the future leader of China, leaving the questionable Admiral in control. He's declared martial law, with Russian and American forces all waiting off the coast for something to spark the powder keg.
Eventually, you're able to find the VIP's while protesters clash with police. Among the VIP's is a CIA field operative, and a mysterious figure that the Chinese military has been searching for. You manage to make your way back to your ship in the harbor, all while civilians are fleeing the city. Back on the ship, you set out for Singapore to rendezvous with another group and figure out your next move. The only problem is that once you get to their last known coordinates, all you can see is fire and mayhem.
Nice ray of sunshine, huh? Eh, that's war I suppose.
So, muse on that for a while if you like. In the meantime, there's rumors circling that while Call of Duty: Ghosts is in development, so too is another Modern Warfare title, this time by Sledgehammer Games, which worked on the most recent game in the series alongside Infinity Ward.
The biggest rumor of late comes from the LinkedIn profile of Sledgehammer's lead VFX artist, Rob Valdivia. The profile has since been taken down, but not before MP1st managed to grab a snippet of it, which reads that Mr. Valdivia is "responsible for developing photo real visual effects for the next Call of Duty Modern Warfare release." Sort of reminds you about that job listing a while back, huh? Still, it's only rumors at this point, though it is a bit fishy that the profile has been pulled.
We'll keep you posted if any other rumors surface, or if Sledgehammer makes any announcement.
