Infinity Ward’s upcoming FPS title Call of Duty: Ghosts is set to raise the standards of how we play Call of Duty games. The company clearly has something up its sleeve for the game's co-op mode, but they've yet to say exactly what.
Recently talking on Twitter and responding to a fan’s query if the massively popular Spec Ops mode will return in Call of Duty: Ghosts, Candice Capen, Infinity Ward’s community coordinator, stated that “we'll have a cooperative mode of sort, but we're not announcing it yet and I've no clue when/if we will.”
Infinity Ward clearly had ideas about the popularity related to the single player aspect of the franchise, apart from the fact that the multiplayer side of it has always been preferred more by the fans. However, accordingly, Infinity Ward introduced Spec Ops with Modern Warfare 2, and this evolved into Spec Ops Survival for Modern Warfare 3. And now the prospects of the same in Call of Duty: Ghosts seems like a possibility.
The new information is also in tune with the previous allegations from YouTube user, Drift0r, that Call of Duty: Ghosts would ship without fan favorite Spec Ops mode, first introduced in Modern Warfare 2. Drift0r had also posted a video sometime ago from PAX East, alleging that the new game would be titled Call of Duty: Ghosts.
Later, on the same topic, Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg also admitted that remaking Modern Warfare 4 would have been the safe thing to do for Ghosts, and described the game as a new "sub-brand" that will introduce "a lot of new ideas and experiences" for current and next generation consoles.
"Ghosts delivers an all-new story, all-new characters, an all-new Call of Duty world, all powered by a next generation Call of Duty engine, which is a leap forward for the franchise. Infinity Ward is going all-in to create the next generation of Call of Duty worthy of the world's greatest fans," Hirshberg stated at that time.
"Everyone was expecting us to make Modern Warfare 4, which would have been the safe thing to do. But we're not resting on our laurels,” executive producer Mark Rubin added. "We saw the console transition as the perfect opportunity to start a new chapter for Call of Duty. So we're building a new sub-brand, a new engine, and a lot of new ideas and experiences for our players. We can't wait to share them with our community."
Call of Duty: Ghosts is scheduled to arrive this fall for current and next generation consoles, and PC.
