Wipe off your controllers and make sure your headset is in full working order, the Global Championships for Halo 4 have begun. It's an all summer long event sponsored by Virgin Gaming and Microsoft, and there's a lot of real world money gamers can win if their skills are up to snuff.
Whichever contestant makes it to the Championship's finals walk away with a whopping $200,000, and $75,000 to the runner up. There's also assorted other amounts of cash prizes for all contestants up to eighth place. Who said you could never make a living sitting on your butt playing video games? The tournament goes all summer long, and features multiple live events and online play.
Six finalists from each live event and the online qualifiers get an expenses paid trip to compete in the finals, and a chance at that lovely six figure prize.
Interested players can sign up at the Rooster Teeth Expo in Austin, TX all this weekend. Or, if you don't happen to be in the hot Texas heat, you can still register through Halo Waypoint here. The online leg kicks off on Xbox Live on July 15th.
If online is the way you're going, make sure you log in to play on the Halo 4 Global Championships playlist with your Gold account. Those recent weapon tweaks to multiplayer should make things all the more interesting. The qualifying period is divided into five weeks, and are as follows:
Week 1: July 15th to July 22nd
Week 2: July 22nd to July 29th
Week 3: July 29th to August 5th
Week 4: August 5th to August 12th
Week 5: August 12th to August 19th
