After a brief jaunt over at Disneyland Paris, the very own convention of the literal sandbox game Minecraft is returning to where it all began, the good 'ol U.S. of A, specifically, Orlando, Florida. The Mojang staff settled on Orlando after a very rigorous selection process, which you can check out in its entireity in the trailer at the bottom of this article.
Lydia Winters, Mojang's Director of Fun (best job title ever by the way), clued us in back in mid-March that the convention was coming back to the United States, but she remained hush on providing any more specific details: "It'll be in the US, that's for sure. It's most definitely in the US. That's all I can say. I would like to tell more, but it's not 100% certain so I can't say anything yet," was all she said at a SXSW panel.
Minecon started with humble beginnings in Bellevue, Washington, followed by a much more impressive reception in Las Vegas, so it's only fitting that it head back to where it all began.
Minecon's are typically accompanied by announcing massive updates for the game, such as the recent Redstone Update. The most recent Minecon played host to over 4,500 people, about the same as the year before.
Minecon 2013 is set to take place on November 2-3, but an exact location within Orlando has yet to be named. With the crew going Disneyland last year, maybe they'll be bringing the con to the US's version of the "happiest place on Earth." Tickets and hotel rooms are set to go on sale in July. We'll post all the necessary information as soon as it becomes available. In the mean time, check out Mojang's rigorous selection process below, and Notch trading in his trademark fedora for a battlesword swung with uncanny precision.
