“House of Cards” Season 5 could have only benefited from the hype generated by the recently concluded U.S. presidential election. When the Netflix political drama returns next year, it will tackle its own version of a thrilling and dramatic election.
In the previous season of “House of Cards”, President Frank Underwood (Kevin Spacey) announced his intention to run as president in the coming elections. He is the sitting president but he did not get elected to the post. He was formerly the vice president but due to the duly elected president’s departure, Frank became his successor to the presidency. Thus, the coming election in “House of Cards” Season 5 will be the first time Frank will be going through the presidential election process.
Reports say that there is a possibility that the race to presidency in “House of Cards” Season 5 may mirror the past Trump versus Clinton presidential showdown in real life. In the past seasons of the show, showrunner Beau Willimon has avoided incorporating current events to the storylines. But, the recent elections may have had too much an impact on everyone that it is hard to ignore.
Several “House of Cards” Season 5 spoilers also reveal that the rival of Frank for president has some similarities to president-elect Donald Trump. Furthermore, the First Lady, Claire Underwood, will also meet her own much as she vies for the second most powerful person in the country, the vice-president.
According to Den of Geek, a new character to be played by Campbell Scott will challenge Claire’s campaign to the vice presidency. Not much is known about the character the actor will be portraying but it is highly speculated that he will prove to be a formidable obstacle in Claire’s road to the White House.
Before signing on to join the “House of Cards” Season 5 cast, Campbell Scott may be remembered for his roles in mainstream movies such as “Amazing Spider-Man” and the TV series “Royal Pains” reports The Hollywood Reporter. The release date for the new season of “House of Cards” has not yet been announced by Netflix but it is expected to be in February 2017 if it follows the release schedule of the past seasons.
