Here’s one of Microsoft’s newest logics: “Because we are providing you with Kinect with Xbox One, we think we’ll chuck off the possibility of a headset.” Makes sense? At least it does to Microsoft.
The new revelation comes from Microsoft with the company confirming that the Kinect will be the default device out of the box (alongside the console) that will allow players to communicate to others. So basically, the official Xbox One headset will not be included in the $499 package.
The company also sent an official statement to Ars Technica on this matter. Microsoft wrote:
“Xbox One does not include a pack-in headset accessory. Each Xbox One includes the new Kinect sensor, with a highly sensitive multi-array microphones designed to enable voice inputs and chat as a system-level capability, both in-game and with Skype and other experiences. For gamers who prefer a headset, we have a variety of offerings that you can find on the Xbox Wire.”
While we are not going on to be too critical about the new decision, at least, it needs to be mentioned that this is a shame considering that fans can’t even get a headset with the already expensive price-tag of $499. And most people would like a complimentary headset rather than the Kinect device. Mainly the ones who prefer a bit of peace or are living with lots of people.
Obviously there is always the probability of buying a new headset to deal with all those needs, but Microsoft could have offered the official headset with a console that’s already demanding such a hefty price tag.
We are also not looking to compare the decision from Microsoft with the business strategies it employed with the earlier version of the console, but for the sake of comparison, Microsoft’s new business ploy has arrived in contrast to the current $299, 250GB Xbox 360 model, which includes a basic headset in the box (of course, the lower-priced 4GB model does not include a headset).
As of now, the Xbox One headset, sold separately, is called the Xbox One Chat Headset. Microsoft, however, is yet to announce a price for it.
The official description for it states: “A must-have for fans of online gaming, the new Xbox One Chat Headset, wired to the controller, is designed for long gaming sessions and clear voice chat. With a lightweight and comfortable new design, the mono chat headset features wideband digital audio and a unidirectional microphone. Gamers will love not having to take their hands off the controller to access the microphone mute and volume controls.”
We are still waiting to find out about more new “deals” from Microsoft for the Xbox One and more is expected to arrive in the upcoming months. However, Microsoft, here, will know that they are on the verge of losing a huge advantage to Sony’s PS4.
The PS4 is set to feature better hardware specifications as far as RAM memory is concerned, alongside the fact that the $399 PS4 package will also include an official PlayStation 4 Headset (or earbud).
