There are quite good reasons why one would be tempted to go for iPhone 7 Plus when picking their new phone. Aside from its larger screen with remarkable higher resolution and noticeably longer-lasting battery, its camera is superb.
iPhone 7 Plus brags of its dual-camera setup at the back. This set up allows it to pull off some notable tricks when shooting images. Not only that, its second camera has a 2X zoom advantage, thus taking objects closer without compromising details. Because of its bokeh feature, it can take impressive portraits by adding background blur to the images. This makes the people in the photo stand out and gives the image a distinctive look as if it was taken by an expensive camera kit.
An experiment has been recently made; iPhone 7 Plus' camera is compared to a dedicated camera. The challenger was a popular mirrorless camera, the Panasonic Lumix GH4. This camera setup today, however, costs around $1600, that is around about two times iPhone 7 Plus' cost.
Instead of using the stock lens, it was equipped it with an Olympus 25mm F/1.8 lens, which yields a view similar to that of the iPhone 7 Plus' 2X zoom camera. It also produces a good bokeh effect at wider aperture settings.
The results were remarkable. Sure, the camera's image looks better overall thanks to its genuine bokeh. The image looks catchy and the results are much more pleasing. Although it can't always calculate the edges of the blurred area accurately, which produces blur where there shouldn't be, iPhone 7 Plus' overall camera image looks pretty noteworthy.
iPhone 7 Plus may still a bit rough around the edges, yet it produces the best bokeh effect we've seen out of a phone. And with all those outstanding features, it sure is a great choice for a new phone.
