PlayStation 4 release date leaked?

Sony has revealed a fair amount about its upcoming console, the PlayStation 4: cost, tech specs, the library, and an approximation of when gamers can expect to get their hands on it - the 4th quarter of 2013, but that's hardly specific. An exact date is always more appreciated than a vague guestimation, and Sony has yet to provide the former. However, that date may have slipped out already before Sony gives the official word.

Microsoft has already told players to expect their own next-gen console, the Xbox One, in November later this year. It's expected that Sony's own console launch would be around roughly the same time, and according to a picture posted to the NeoGAF forums, that's exactly the case.

NeoGAF user by the name of Cyborg snapped a photo of a display for the console (seen above) at a Media Markt in the Netherlands, bearing the date November 13, 2013 (ironically, almost a full year to the day that the Nintendo's new console, the Wii U arrived in Europe). Sony has yet to confirm if this is indeed when the company is planning on launching the console, but it seems logical enough.

Strategically speaking, Sony will want to release it earlier, or at least very close to Microsoft's own launch of the Xbox One, and a release date in mid-November would be a key time for the console to arrive. The date on the display is about a week before the legendary shopping day, Black Friday, which takes place on the 22nd of this year's November.

But don't go marking your calendars just yet though, it's best to wait for the official confirmation from Sony. Whenever the console does arrive, gamers will be able to snatch it up for $399.

We'll keep you posted once the word is out.
