“Reign” Season 4 is set to return to the TV screens as announced by The CW. While fans welcomed the news on the return of their favorite historical fantasy romance series, they also felt disappointment with the news that the coming season may be the last for one of its lead stars.
According to rumors making the rounds online and other media, Adelaide Kane who plays Mary Stuart, Queen of Scots, has turned down her contract renewal offer to reprise her role in Season 5 of “Reign”. The actress will reportedly be working on a different project, most possibly in film reports a Gamenguide previous article.
Should this news be true, speculations have risen that Kane’s character as the embattled queen will have a heartbreaking exit in “Reign” Season 4. When the series returns, it is expected that Mary will transition to her new role after the death of her husband, Francis (Toby Regbo) reports TV Line. This, however will only intensify her feud with Elizabeth (Rachel Skarsten).
“Reign” Season 4 spoilers reveal that Mary and Elizabeth’s rivalry will come to a head and one of them will be beheaded before the season finale. Many speculate that if one of the series’ leads die, it could signal the end for the series as well.
Reports say that “Reign” Season 4 promises to stay as faithful to actual historical events as much as possible. If this will be the case, Elizabeth is supposed to be the winner in her rivalry with Mary. More spoilers for the season indicate that Mary will be captured, imprisoned, and probably later be beheaded as well.
Being true to history will therefore pave the way for Kane’s departure from the series after “Reign” Season 4. If the show is extended beyond that, Elizabeth will have the spotlight all by herself as the story could focus on her life and reign. In fact, spoilers say that when the series returns from its mid-season hiatus, there will already be a shift into the story of Elizabeth I of England.
