Call of Duty: Ghosts developing fast - Both current and next generation versions in the works

Infinity Ward, the team behind the successful Call of Duty franchise, has confirmed that not only the upcoming Call of Duty: Ghosts is hot in development, but both the current and next generation versions of the game are being developed at the same time.

The confirmation that both the version of the game are in development at the same time will come as welcoming news for all avid Call of Duty fans who feared that Infinity Ward will take away its focus from the current generation version of the game since the next generation is already upon us. However, Infinity Ward has now said that it is handling the development of both the versions of the game, and that equality for all is on the cards.

In a recent interview with Polygon, Activision's CEO of publishing, Eric Hirshberg stated that Infinity Ward aims at providing “the best possible experience on both current-gen and next-gen platforms, so to ensure that one experience isn't lesser to the other, Infinity Ward is handling the development of both internally.”

“We have the same development team working on the games for the next generation and the current generation, because what this ensures is that the current generation isn't an afterthought or something that is just outsourced," Hirshberg added. "We want to be sure that we consider the things that are the innovations going into the next generation of games that the current generation can benefit from.”

Call of Duty: Ghosts, the tenth installment in the Call of Duty series, is said to take place in a time following a catastrophic event that changed the global balance of power, with the United States no longer accepted as a superpower.

However, ten years after the event, a group of selected soldiers known as the "Ghosts" start a concealed war against an unseen enemy, the outcome of which will affect both America and these soldiers themselves.

The game is set in the year 2023, and according to its official E3 showcase, one of the in-game missions called Federation Day will take place in Caracas, Venezuela, which has been described as Ghosts’ “enemy capital.”

Call of Duty: Ghosts is set for a late 2013 release PC, PS3, Xbox 360, PS4, and Xbox One. A Wii U version of the game is also on the cards.
